Zhizi Wu’s (Jasminidose) works explore the characteristics of East Asian femininity under conservativeness. She pays attention to a variety of narrative themes such as mother-daughter relationships, intergenerational relationships, sexual repression, sexual presence, demisexuality, and lesbianism, Meanwhile, she researches an indirect and obscure narrative mode. Using mixed media, mainly oil painting, on a blank piece of cotton cloth as a starting point, Zhizi Wu records her memories, avoidance, and evil thoughts. Although she usually expresses accurate scene depictions in paintings, she strives to distort the plots, thus emphasizing a layer of barriers between characters and people, or between the self and the outside world. This “dissociative” narrative attempts to touch the core personality of some East Asian women and their collective trauma which has been kept silent, denied, and abandoned.
In addition to dissecting her own experiences, Wu perceives women's collective memories on the Internet. As Paul Rand said, "... if advertising is the folk language of capitalism, the internet is a densely layered folktale going wild. It’s a feeding tube to nourish the hive” Wu often reads and feels the painful words written by anonymous women on the Internet, which grow as seeds in her heart. Wu draws inspiration from works of art about women: "Letter to a Child Never Born" by Oriana Fallaci, "Runaway" by Alice Munro, “All About My Mother” directed by Pedro Almodovar, and “The Hours” written by Michael Cunningham.

除了对自己的经历进行剖析,吴栀子也在互联网上感知女性的群体记忆。正如保罗·兰德所说“……如果说广告是资本主义的民间语言,那么互联网就是层层递进、疯狂的民间故事。它是滋养蜂群的饲管。”吴栀子常常阅读和感受网络上的匿名女性撰写的文字,这些文字激发了她的创作。此外,吴栀子从关于女性的艺术作品中汲取灵感,奥里亚娜·法拉奇的小说《给一个未出生孩子的信》,爱丽丝·门罗的小说集《逃离》,佩德罗·阿莫多瓦所执导的《关于我母亲的一切》,迈克尔·坎宁安的小说《时时刻刻》都给她带来了很大影响。
